Bimonthly publication “The Computer Science”

Overview:

The Computer Science bimonthly is a publication of Afghan Computer Science Association (ACSA) established in 1999. ACSA is an Information Communication Technology (ICT) professionals’ initiative working for promotion, development and progress of ICT in Afghanistan. The magazine, which publishes 6 times a year after each couple of months, was launched in 2000 and circulated 4 issues in 2000 and 2001. After 2001 the publication was stopped as a result of financial Impecuniousness. Now when circumstances are changed it’s started again by its 5th issue with a circulation of 2000 copies and targeting 10000 copies at the end of its operational year.

Why the Computer Science Bimonthly?
Afghan Computer Science Association recognizes that education, knowledge, information and communication are at the core of human progress, endeavor and well-being. Further, Information Communication Technology (ICT) has an immense impact on virtually all aspects of our lives. The rapid progress of these technologies opens completely new opportunities to attain higher levels of development. The capacity of these technologies to reduce many traditional obstacles, especially those of time and distance, for the first time in history makes it possible to use the potential of these technologies for the benefit of millions of people in all corners of the world.

ACSA is aware that ICT should be regarded as tools and not as an end in themselves. Under favorable conditions, these technologies can be a powerful instrument, increasing productivity, generating economic growth, job creation and employability and improving the quality of life of all. They can also promote dialogue among people, nations and civilizations.

Keeping in view these crucial necessities, ACSA envisaged the need of a comprehensive and integrated publication in 2000 and printed “the Computer Science bimonthly”. As Afghanistan is very new to ICT, therefore to create awareness among Afghans regarding this new technology is vastly required. ACSA desires to launch this program (the Computer Science bimonthly) as an inclusive source of information for the people where the “Publication Team” will work hard to ensure all commitments are fulfilled and all challenges are addressed. The “Publication Team” will work to:

  • Establish the magazine as a foundation for the promotion of ICT and Computer Science in Afghanistan.
  • Promote computer literacy program in Afghanistan.
  • Provide an educational and technical source to the people.
  • Explain the ICT and its importance for Afghanistan, and create awareness among people about ICT and the development of ICT sector in the country.
  • Study the current state of ICT in the country.
  • Circulate questioners in order to collect public views on ICT.
  • Come up with requirements and needs of the local people in each area and propose solutions to them.

The out come of the publication will be an ICT awarded society, it would encourage the promotion of computer literacy, where ICT literate Afghans would be available for the market.
