AFIT (Afghanistan’s First IT) Conference:

Overview:
More than two decades of war and unrest has resulted in demolition of basic infrastructure of Afghanistan i.e. education, health, housing, economy, and social life. Afghanistan was not only cut off from the rapid developments in the world, but also lost the basic facilities it had and the country was deserted from educated Afghans who were to build up the country. Afghanistan has now entered in to the new era and both the Afghan nation and international community has a huge task ahead of them to rebuild the country economically, socially, politically and educationally.

The Afghan Compute Science Association (ACSA) has decided to organize a one-day conference to address the immediate need and promotion of ICT in the country.

The conference is designed to bring together about 500 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) professional and other related key player in Afghanistan to share ideas for promotion and implementation of ICT in Afghanistan. The Conference will mainly focus on E-readyness status of ICT in Afghanistan, commencement of building blocks for ICT strategy in Afghanistan, ICT awareness campaign in Afghanistan and propose an ICT coordination body for the country.

Afghan Computer Science Association (ACSA) solely manages and organizes the AFIT conference.

The direct beneficiary of the conference is the participant and the indirect beneficiaries are the ICT community actively working in Afghanistan and in turn all national and international individuals and organization in the country.

Project Objectives:

The overall aim of the project is to:

  • E-ready Status of ICT in Afghanistan
  • Commencement of building blocks for ICT Strategy in Afghanistan
  • ICT Awareness Campaign in Afghanistan
  • Bring together Afghan ICT professionals from across the country and, perhaps, the world to share ideas for promotion and implementation of ICT in Afghanistan
  • Propose an IT coordination body
Expected Outputs/Results:

  • Understanding the E-Status of the country
  • Approval of platform for the coordination of donor and government organizations working in the ICT sector of Afghanistan
  • Compiling the E-ready report of the country for the public and private sector
  • Presentation of reports on IT activities since inception of the government to date to the government, donors and the people of Afghanistan in general.
  • Bringing together Afghan IT professionals to share ideas and discuss a common IT strategy for introducing Afghanistan to the Information Society
  • Formation of local ICT Activists task force

If donors pledge and the government of Afghanistan support, ACSA will launch a two-year IT awareness campaign in Afghanistan that would result in an IT-aware society and training of more than 10,000 government and private sector employees that would enable them to easily operate and use computer and other IT-related equipment in their day-to-day business activities.
